In January 2019 Graffwerk opened up their new home: ‘The Mill by Graffwerk’. Home to established paint shop GraffHQ, vegan cafe Pomelo and Rocket, a gallery space, in house printing, artist studios and office spaces this venue is an exciting new creative addition to the city. Based in the North Mills industrial estate of Frog Island along the canal the location is a five to ten minute walk from the city centre.
The Mill was a self financed project by the Graffwerk collective and owes it’s existence thanks to an incredible team of volunteers from the local creative community who gave their time and expertise to support the renovation of an unused Mill. The team sourced much of the build from materials donated by local businesses and individuals who were able to contribute materials they had collected. It’s a perfect example of what can be achieved when a community comes together.
The Mill plays host to regular events including a monthly Saturday Social on the last Saturday of each month where free workshops and pop up independent shops add to the usual busy activities of the building. The exhibition is constantly changing with a diverse array of incredible artwork and the cafe itself offers fresh specials each week. The in house paint shop is always willing to help out with advice on painting and information about where you can check out new work. Nearby legal sites means there is usually some painting going on.
